Initial Photo. Case of quadrant dentistry with two class I cavities and two class II cavities in premolars. One of the most important step in restorative treatment is preparation to isolation. In first step of treatment we should open the interproximal areas and prepare the cavities close to the gum level. On this stage we should also create an optimal Shape
Factor that will make future matrix adaptation much easier.

Step 2. Isolation and final caries preparation. After initial preparation it is much easier to place a rubber dam. Without strong contact points and sharp edges of the cavities we can eliminate a risk of rubber dam tearing. On the stage of isolation we have to perform a proper inversion of rubber dam and clamp reposition.

Step 3. Proper matrix choice and adaptation. When we finish caries preparation we have to choose proper matrix. There are many factors that determine the appropriate matrix choice. Shape of the cavity, distance between the cavity margin and the adjacent tooth and contact zone position should be consider during matrix choice. In some situations ring can deform the matrix.

Step 4. Matrix Adaptation. After changing the ring position we can improve the matrix shape. There are many ways to adapt the matrix. One of the approach is by using the individual wedges made of teflon – TeflonFloss technique. This is a unique way that makes the matrix adaptation process very easy and predictable

Step 4. Matrix Adaptation. According to different clinical situations we have to work with different matrix bands. When the access to the cavity is small one of the best technique is a combination of transparent matrix and TeflonFloss technique.

Step 4. Matrix Adaptation. There are different rings on the market. The Rings vary in shape and strength. During the lecture I will present the combination of metal ring and the Elliot separator that helps with the separation process.

Step 5. Placement of the composite. There are different ways of composite placement. One of them is the injection overmoulding technique. It reduces the risk of voids creation and makes the surface ot the interproximal walls very smooth.

Step 6. Checking the contact points position. With proper matrix we can create a contact point in optimal position.

Before and after.
Summary. Restorative treatment should be divided on stages. On every stage we have to perform some actions that makes next step much easier. Preparation to isolation, isolation ,safe caries preparation, matrix choice and matrix adaptation are some of the stages. By using different matrix systems and different techniques of matrix adaptation we can obtain an optimal result.
